FNDA: Small Caps Have Fallen, But Earnings Expectations Are Still Too High
I downgrade Schwab Fundamental U.S. Small Company ETF to 'hold' due to declining EPS growth and price momentum. FNDA maintains quality advantages, especially by underweighting unprofitable biotech, but its growth-at-a-reasonable-price metrics no longer stand out. The ETF's next-year EPS growth estimate fell from 17.40% to 14.99% since July. However, sales growth is projected at just 7.62%, and I couldn't reconcile the difference.

FNDA: Small-Cap ETF With Solid Quality And GARP Features
FNDA is a fundamentally weighted small-cap ETF with 900+ holdings, strong sector diversification features, and a reasonably low 0.25% expense ratio. The fundamental screens emphasize sales, operating cash flow, and dividend/buybacks over the last five years, but a potential weakness is the lack of a growth component. As a result, ETFs like SCHA, IWM, IJR, and FESM look stronger on several of FNDA's own criteria. These ETFs also feature competitive and, in some cases, cheaper P/E ratios.
