Reflections on the past, present and future of M1 from CEO Brian Barnes

This year, 2026, will mark M1’s tenth year in business. Trust me when I say there are some very exciting things to come as we turn 10… but first, I want to reflect on the year we’ve had so far.

Here’s how the M1 community built wealth in 2025: 

• Average monthly Invest deposits: $433/month 
• Together, you earned over $371 million in dividends 
• You also generated over $40.5 million in interest through Earn accounts 

To our clients: you should be proud of making these strides toward your long-term goals. We’re honored to help, as your dedication helped us reach over $12.5 billion in assets under management. 

New features, better insights, and future plans

In August, we launched custom performance benchmarking, which lets you compare your portfolio’s performance to stocks, ETFs—even custom Pies, so you can choose the right metric for your specific goals. That’s a level of personalization that’s pretty hard to beat. Paired with time-weighted rate of return, it gives you the power to evaluate your performance with your real data, right in M1. In fact, 90% of M1 clients agreed that benchmarking helps them better understand how effective their investment strategy is. 

You may also have started reading your personalized News Snapshot, a weekly roundup of stories related to your top holdings. My investing ethos is to avoid the noise and tap into the long-term signals. This feature delivers on that promise: it filters out the short-term chatter and only surfaces relevant stories that matter over the long-term and to you specifically.  

Plus, we released our early beta of M1 Intelligence, an AI-powered personal assistant that can answer your questions about investing, personal finance, news, and more. Beta testing is key as we fine-tune our technology. Keep an eye out—this will be released to all clients very soon. 

Another exciting feature I want to call out is Concentration Analysis. This feature helps you understand your true concentration by sector, region, and asset class. Look for it under “Insights” in your account.
